Rea: Your Smart Digital Closet
Social Network

Rea is an app that is aimed to help the user sell their used items more efficiently by combining both social media features and secondhand selling platform features.
The app concept, project research, and interviews were conducted by my collaborators Ahry Jeon and Ashley Akinola. I worked as the solo designer for this project, In the beginning I developed a visual system that conveys the modern and minimal aesthetic of the brand. I then designed a presentation deck for pitching to the investors and created a hi-fi prototype that showcases the user flow of some of the key functions. The duration of the entire project was three weeks.

+  Challenge

Rea mainly targets the younger generation who are fashion conscious and at the same time don’t have enough money to spend on brand new clothing. So we want to create a visual language that feels modern, sophicated, and clutter-free while simultaneously feeling friendly, fun, and approachable.

+  Solution

After doing research on the competitors, I decided to use dark green as the primary color because it suggests sustainability which is one of the major benefits secondhand shopping offers. Dark green is also not used by our major competitors yet, so it is a good choice for distinguishing ourselves.

While I was designing, I took a minimalistic approach by using a limited color palette and leaving a lot of negative space which put more focus on each product image. I also reinforced the feeling of playfulness by using customized icons and illustrations. For the logo, I initially chose to make it in TT Ramillas Extrabold typeface because it is friendly, elegant, pairs up well with Barlow (the sans serif typeface I used for the majority of the content), and feels faintly feminine. Later, I modified the details to make it looks more modern and trendy.

Prototype

This prototype includes 3 user flows: uploading products into the app by via email, selling a product through closet report based on suggested resale value, and make an offer on another user’s item. The prototype is available here.
